Dr. Edward J. Drasby completed his fellowship training in Movement
Disorders and Parkinson’s disease at Boston Medical Center
in 2002. He received neurology training at Boston University School
of Medicine, completing residency in 2001. Dr. Drasby graduated
from the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1997, and
then completed his medical internship at the Boston VA/Boston University
Hospitals in 1998. He has received a Masters Degree in English
Literature from the University of Maine at Orono in 1993, and obtained
a BS from the University of Bridgeport in 1978 majoring in English
Literature and Creative Writing. He has an Associates Degree in
Engineering Science from Nassau Community College since 1973.
Dr. Drasby is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry
and Neurology, is a Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology,
and a longstanding member of the Movement Disorder Society. He
is a member and researcher for the Parkinson Study Group (PSG),
a non-profit, cooperative group of Parkinson's disease experts
from medical centers in the United States and Canada who are dedicated
to improving treatment for persons affected by Parkinson's disease.
He is the Medical Director for the Maine Parkinson's Disease Society
and sits on its Board of Directors. He is also the Medical Advisor
for the Restless Leg Society of Maine and is affiliated with the
Huntington Disease Society of Maine. He has an appointment as an
Assistant Professor of Neurology at the University of New England
School of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM), as well as an appointment
at the University of Vermont School of Medicine as a Clinical Instructor
in Neurology.
Port City Neurology is a teaching site conducting clerkships for
the Medicine and Family Practice Residency Program affiliated with
UNECOM, and provides clinical rotations for the Geriatrics Fellowship
program at Maine Medical Center. Port City Neurology and Dr. Drasby
also continue to be an active enrolling site for the Gene-PD Project
investigating the genetic origins of Parkinson’s disease.
He has been the Principal Investigator on more than 20 Parkinson’s
research studies and remains committed to providing both ongoing
personalized cutting-edge clinical treatment of Parkinson’s
disease, along with providing access to advanced pharmaceutical
research to the people of Maine. Lastly, he has been a contributing
author on multiple journal articles on Parkinson’s disease.
His interests in neurology include the treatment of Parkinson's
disease, atypical Parkinsonism, Multiple Sclerosis, Dystonia, Spasticity,
Huntington's Disease, along with disorders of gait and balance.
Dr. Drasby evaluates and screens patients with advanced Parkinson's
Disease, Dystonia, and Essential Tremor for Deep Brain Stimulation
(DBS) surgery, and is currently adjusting stimulators for more
than 40 existing DBS patients. He also treats various neurological
conditions with botulinum toxin (Botox).
